What are the connections between Viking culture and contemporary Scandinavian design? This oversized book is a response to that query, providing the reader with unique juxtapositions of the two. Using the modern colors of Scandinavian countries as a backdrop, Voice of the Vikingr is divided into four sections; exploration, language, religion and craftsmanship. Each section is divided into chapters focusing on a singular aspect of Viking culture paired with a contemporary Scandinavian designer, photographer, filmmaker, poet or architect. The book is marked by ancient symbology with the revival of Futhark—a long dead language of the Vikings, found only carved into rune stones. This modern take on Futhark is paired with typography designed by contemporary Scandinavian type foundries. In these pages there are connections everywhere. See if you can make your own...
